Housing Society Keeps Estate Rents Unchanged and Waives One-month Rent

The Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) announced that its Executive Committee had decided to maintain the rents of all domestic rental units at the existing level for the next fiscal year from April 2007 to March 2008. Besides, the rents for February 2007 will be waived as a goodwill to its tenants.

This is the tenth consecutive year since 1998 that HKHS freezes the rents, including rates and government rents, of some 32,000 domestic units in its rental estates (list attached).

“HKHS is an independent organization and has to operate prudently in order to be financially sufficient. As most of our estates are over 20 years old, substantial resources are required to upgrade estate facilities and the environment to enhance the living quality of our residents. Besides, HKHS will continue to work on the “Building Management and Maintenance Scheme”, urban revitalization and redevelopment projects, as well as elderly housing as a social mission to contribute to the community,” said HKHS Chairman Mr Yeung Ka-sing.

HKHS shall review the rental levels of its housing estates again in early 2008.
