Housing Society Freezes Rent for Another Year and Waives One-month Rent

The Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) announced that its Executive Committee had decided to maintain the rents of all domestic rental units at the existing level for the next fiscal year from April 2008 to March 2009. Moreover, in celebration of the 60th Anniversary of Housing Society in 2008, the Executive Committee also decided to waive the rents for the month of February 2008 to share the joy with the residents.

This is the eleventh consecutive year since 1998 that HKHS has frozen the rents of some 32,000 domestic units in its rental estates (list attached).

"As most of the estates are over 20 years old, the Housing Society has to put in resources constantly to carry out rehabilitation and improvement works to enhance the living quality of our residents. Although we anticipate a deficit in the management of our estates in the coming year, the Executive Committee still decided to continue to freeze the rents to avoid adding financial burden to our residents," said HKHS Chairman Mr Yeung Ka-sing.

HKHS shall review the rental levels of its housing estates again by the end of 2008.
