Question 7: The headroom of my property is large and a cockloft is added to increase the area. How does the Housing Society calculate the compensation for cocklofts? Will there be any compensation for the cockloft if it is not included in the building plan?

Answer: No value. Compensation or ex-gratia allowances will be paid in respect of structures, which are not erected in compliance with the Buildings Ordinance and the terms of the Government lease under which the property is held. However, the headroom of a property may affect the market value of the property. The consultant firms appointed by the Housing Society will take this factor into consideration when assessing the market value of the property.
