Objective

Hong Kong’s population is rapidly ageing.  According to the projection of the Census and Statistics Department, people aged 65 and above are expected to rise markedly from around 940,000 in 2011 to nearly 2,600,000, or 30% of the population by 2041.  This drastic increase in senior population will lead to a surging demand for special social services, in particular housing.

Although most elder people choose to stay in their own homes and communities for the rest of their lives, a purpose-built housing project for the elderly or an age-friendly living environment with support services are necessary for achieving ageing-in-place.

The Age-friendly Housing Seminar organised by the Hong Kong Housing Society will provide a platform for local and overseas experts, as well as industry practitioners in housing and elderly services, to share their experience and exchange insights into this important topic and salient issues, such as the housing trends, design standards and support services which are instrumental to ageing-in-place.

The Seminar is also one of the major events to mark the 10th Anniversary of the Housing Society Elderly Resources Centre (ERC), established in 2005 to promote age-friendly housing through enhancing the awareness of the elderly on home safety.
