Social Responsibilities
社會責任
For our rental estates, we signed the Food Wise Charter as part of our
pledge in 2012 to help reduce food waste in the community. Since
then, we have undertaken a number of food waste reduction initiatives.
Over the past two years at Kwun Tong Garden Estate and Kwun Lung
Lau, we have carried out the Food-waste Recycling and Community
Farming Programme as a means of promoting recycling among the
residents of our rental estates and helping to relieve the pressure on
Hong Kong’s diminishing landfill sites. Since the start of this
programme, a total of 14,113 kg of food waste has been collected and
6,282 kg of compost supplied to the estates’ nurseries.
We continued to promote the ‘waste reduction’ message by regularly
collecting excess food from the residents during holidays such as
the Mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese New Year, and donating it to
St James’ Settlement People’s Food Bank.
To encourage daily waste-reduction habits among our residents, we
provided facilities for recycling a wide range of materials, including
garments, computers, electrical appliances, glass and even wood from
cherry trees and seasonal plants.
