Social Responsibilities
Social responsibility has been embedded in the work of the Housing
Society since our founding in 1948 when we began to provide
affordable housing for the people of Hong Kong. Over the following
decades, we have expanded that mandate by exploring housing
solutions that meet the needs of all levels of society.
Although we continue to build affordable housing projects, our social
mission today also covers a wide range of issues, from providing
scholarships for young people to bringing housing and healthcare
services to the elderly, from sharing our housing expertise at industry
events to encouraging staff participation in volunteer activities. We
also carry out environmental initiatives that enhance the sustainability
of our housing projects, the housing industry and the community.
Supporting the Industry
In 2005, we set up the Housing Society Academy (HSA) to promote
professional development of the housing industry by way of experience
sharing, sponsorships, student internships and scholarships, as well as
professional research.
During the review period, we participated in knowledge and
experience sharing sessions with local visitors and delegates from the
Mainland and Overseas. They included representatives from the
Chartered Institute of Building (Hong Kong), students from the MSc in
International Real Estate programme jointly organised by The Hong
Kong Polytechnic University and Zhejiang University, members of the
