Co-organised with The Department of Chinese Language and

Literature of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the HSA held the

second Essay Writing Competition under the theme of ‘Housing for the

Elderly’. The objective of the competition was to promote the concept

of ‘cross-generation harmony’ and to encourage young people to

understand the housing needs of the elderly. After receiving more

than 1,100 entries from 92 secondary schools, we held an award

presentation ceremony and published all the winning and selected

entries in a book.

In April 2015, we continued to invite world-class scholars to address

the local community on housing-related topics as part of our

Distinguished Lecture Series organised with The University of Hong

Kong. The speaker was Prof David Clapham, Professor of Planning of

the University of Reading in the United Kingdom and Visiting

Professor, IBF at the University of Uppsala in Sweden, who shared his

experience in housing for the older people, particularly the direction

on how to combine accommodation and elderly services to provide

the necessary support.
