Elderly Housing and Care

During the review period, the Housing Society continued to focus on

the housing needs of the elderly in response to changing

demographic trends in Hong Kong.

As estimated by the Census and Statistics Department, from the end

of 2014 to the end of 2015, the number of people over the age of

60 grew from 1,565,200 to 1,632,700, a dramatic increase of 67,500.

This trend, according to the Department, will be most pronounced

over the next 20 years.

As an organisation with a social mission, we have been meeting the

housing, healthcare and social needs of the elderly with programmes

such as our Ageing-in-Place scheme in our rental estates, Senior

Citizen Residences Scheme for the middle-income elderly and, as of

this year, The Tanner Hill project for elderly people who aspire to a

more quality lifestyle.

These programmes cater for the housing needs of Hong Kong’s senior

citizens at all socio-economic levels.
