The Scheme was piloted in Cho Yiu Chuen in 2012 and then extended to
seven other rental estates of the Housing Society during the review year,
including Ming Wah Dai Ha on Hong Kong Island, Kwun Tong Garden
Estate in Kowloon and Moon Lok Dai Ha in the New Territories.
In addition, Clague Garden Estate has been nominated to take part in
a community initiative ‘Age-friendly City’ (AFC) under a global scheme
sponsored by the World Health Organisation. In fact, the AIP Scheme and
the AFC share the same vision to build an age-friendly environment for
the elderly to age in their familiar community.
Elderly Resources Centre
Apart from taking care of our elderly residents, as an extension of the
initiative to promote ‘ageing in place’, the Housing Society started the
Elderly Resources Centre in 2005 as a particular contribution to the
community. Throughout the years, the Centre has pioneered different
projects and services on the promotion of home safety for the elderly in
the community.
Operated by experienced occupational therapists and social workers, the
Centre renders to the community at large education on elderly care and
provides upon request free-of-charge assessment of an elderly person’s
risk at home, taking into account the physical functions of the elderly and
the living conditions. At the Centre, there is a ‘home adaptation zone’ with
furniture and equipment demonstrating how ‘universal design’ features
will improve the overall quality of life of the elderly. Up to March 2014,
the Centre has received more than 62,000 visitors.
62,000
人次。
