Social Responsibilities
The Housing Society is a non-governmental organisation which puts its
social objectives first. The innovative housing schemes it has introduced
are designed to serve the particular needs of the community, especially in
the provision of housing for the aged.
From time to time, the Housing Society takes on non-revenue-generating
activities like providing help and advice on building maintenance to
those in need, and assuming responsibility for city revitalisation, all as
contributions to the community.
Internally to its staff, the Housing Society seeks to be a good employer,
caring for its employees and putting special emphasis on health and
work-life balance.
Still, the Housing Society has to do more in order to be a responsible
corporate citizen. Wherever we can, we strive to contribute to the
community, the industry we belong, professional development,
occupational safety and health, and environmental protection.
Supporting the Industry
The Hong Kong Housing Society Academy (HS Academy) was
established within the Housing Society to foster knowledge exchange and
experience sharing with the outside. It coordinates activities in promoting
professional development of the housing-related industry, academic
exchange, student internship, scholarship, bursary and the sponsoring of
professional research and activities.
In October 2013, the Housing Society hosted an International Conference
entitled ‘Housing in an Ageing Community’ to mark its 65
th
Anniversary.
The conference was opened by the Chief Secretary for Administration
and attended by over 400 participants from Government, professional
and academic circles, both locally and overseas. Attendees shared
views and experiences in elderly housing and some paid site visits to
familiarise themselves with the ‘Ageing-in-Place’ initiative of the Housing
Society afterwards.
By sharing knowledge and experience, the Housing Society helps
to promote professional development. Very often, our Chairman and
senior management are invited to give speeches and exchange views in
conferences and seminars.
