- The Housing Society took over the management of 56 cottages at Ma Tau Chung in 1953. These had been built in 1938 to house refugees from mainland China
- A further 128 cottages was built by the Housing Society in 1955
- The Ma Tau Chung cottages were demolished in 1962 and, while part of the site was handed back to Government, a new rental estate Chun Seen Mei Chuen was built on the remaining part
