Housing Society Waives Rent to Help Tenants

The Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) announced today (24 October) that rent waiver would be implemented by the end of this year to help relieve the financial burden of its domestic tenants.

In view of the prevailing economy and government's call to help ease people's financial burden, the Executive Committee of the HKHS decided at its meeting yesterday to introduce one-month waiver in December this year. Besides, the rents will remain unchanged for another year from April 2002. More than 32,000 families would be benefited. For the commercial tenants, the Society will allow them to apply for rent re-assessment. "We understand the difficulties faced by our tenants and hope these measures can help alleviate their financial burden," remarked the Honourable Chung Shui-ming, Chairman of HKHS.

In line with government's measure to reduce rates payment, the Society will also re-distribute all the rates saved to its tenants accordingly as soon as practicable so that they can benefit directly.
