Housing Society Grants Scholarships and Bursaries for 2018

The 13th Hong Kong Housing Society Award (HKHS Award) Presentation Ceremony was held today.  The 102 awardees this year came from 11 local tertiary institutes and their continuing education schools and community colleges, as well as three institutes under the Vocational Training Council (VTC), namely the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education and Hong Kong Design Institute.

The Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) established the HKHS Award in 2006 with an aim to support the local housing development and nurture young talents for the industry.  The Award recognises students with outstanding academic performance in housing-related disciplines while providing financial assistance to those in need.  To cope with the increasing demand for talents in elderly services, the HKHS Award has been extended to cover courses related to the field since 2012.  Each awardee was granted HK$8,000.

HKHS Chairman Marco Wu said at the award presentation ceremony, “More than 900 students have been benefited from the HKHS Award over the years, and the total amount of scholarships and bursaries granted has exceeded HK$5 million. Housing development and ageing population which have been issues of public concern are closely related to the programmes taken by our awardees.  With great importance attached to nurturing talents, we hope to encourage these young people, through offering scholarships and bursaries, to equip themselves and get well prepared for joining the housing and elderly-care professions, so as to inject new impetus into the industries.”

Since 1994, HKHS has granted scholarships annually to outstanding students of the Master of Housing Management Programme of The University of Hong Kong through the “Father Cronin Memorial Award”.  This year, Joyce Ho Tsz-yung and Ng Chi-shing were winners of the “Father Cronin Memorial Award (Best Student in Professional Stream)” and the “Father Cronin Memorial Award (Best Student in Academic Stream)” respectively, each receiving a prize of HK$8,000.

Students from 11 tertiary institutes and three VTC schools are granted the HKHS Award.

HKHS Chairman Marco Wu shares experience with students at the Award Presentation Ceremony, encouraging them to make good use of their knowledge to contribute to society.
