Housing Society Announces the Newly Elected Supervisory Board
The 66th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) was held today (6 September), at which members of the new Supervisory Board were elected. Following the AGM, the first Supervisory Board meeting was held at which Walter Chan Kar-lok and Ling Kar-kan were elected as the Chairman and the Vice-Chairman respectively for a term of three years. Members of the new Executive Committee were also appointed at the meeting.
Walter Chan Kar-lok joined HKHS as a Member in 2008. He served as a member of the Executive Committee from 2009 to 2015 and the Supervisory Board from 2015 to 2018. He was also the Chairman of the Special Committee on Elderly Housing and the Audit Committee from 2012 to 2015 and 2016 to 2018 respectively. He is currently a consultant of So, Lung & Associates Solicitors. Ling Kar-kan, former Director of Planning, joined HKHS as a Member in 2017 and has served as a member of the Executive Committee since January 2018. He is now the Director of the Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

I look forward to working closely with the Supervisory Board, the Executive Committee and Management of HKHS in the days ahead, with a unified passion of providing quality housing and services to respond to the needs of Hong Kong people.”
As a not-for-profit organisation governed by Members, HKHS operates under a two-tier board governance structure comprising a Supervisory Board and an Executive Committee. The Supervisory Board determines the mission, vision, core values and guiding principles of the HKHS, and oversees nomination, election and audit functions. The Executive Committee sets business strategies and policies to achieve the mission and objectives, and monitors the performance of the Management.
Members of the Supervisory Board and the Executive Committee are drawn from HKHS Members and the term of office is normally three years. At each AGM, at least one-third of the existing members of the Supervisory Board and the Executive Committee (excluding the ex officio members and the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of the HKHS) shall retire from office to maintain a balance between continuity and the introduction of new blood, and ensure that the governance team is equipped with the expertise and experience required.
