Housing Society Promotes Site Occupational Safety and Health
Leading the Way in Shaping New Industry Culture
The Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) recently held the Health Charters Commitment Ceremony 2025 at “Lab Plus”, its smart project hub located at the operations headquarters. During the ceremony, contractors and partners of HKHS projects pledged their support for the “Joyful@Healthy Workplace Programme”, “Mental Health Workplace Charter” and “Heart Caring Charter” launched by the Occupational Safety and Health Council (OSHC) and the Government, in a bid to foster a caring culture at construction sites and enhance the overall well-being of site workers in a holistic manner.
HKHS Director (Projects) Franco Cheung said, “The health and well-being of site workers are closely associated with construction safety and work efficiency. In recent years, the Housing Society has actively transformed site culture and management practices with a ‘people-centric’ approach. We strive to improve the working environment and enhance the overall occupational safety and health of site workers. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to our project contractors and partners for their enthusiastic support and commitment to signing the charters. Their pledge to providing mental, psychological and physical health support for site workers are instrumental in creating a safer, healthier and more fulfilling working environment. The Housing Society has also incorporated the requirement of adopting all three charters into the contractual terms of all new projects, safeguarding the well-being of workers across our sites.”
The ceremony was attended by a total of over 250 participants, both in-person and online, including representatives from contractors and partners across 16 projects. Held at HKHS’s brand-new “Lab Plus”, the event carries a special connotation, highlighting the centre’s role as a hub of HKHS implementing smart construction and project management, and championing exchange and collaboration on innovative technology application across the industry.
On another note, HKHS has recently been recognised for its commitment to advancing construction technology and fostering a people-centric and caring site culture. The accolades received include the “No.1 Innovation in Construction Site Culture Award” at the “Headline No.1 Awards 2025” organised by Headline Daily, and the “Construction Project Management Award of Excellence” at the “Leadership Business Awards 2025” hosted by Now Finance. These awards commend HKHS’s introduction of Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) Collaboration Centres at its construction sites and the installation and implementation of the Smart Site Safety System (4S). In addition, HKHS was honoured for its pioneering role in occupational safety and health, creating integrated spaces that offer safe and comfortable environments for work, recreational and leisure for its project teams.
HKHS has established four MiC Collaboration Centres, namely “W.I.S.E” at the Anderson Road Site R2-4 project in Kwun Tong, “Chillax Hub” at the Kai Tak Area 2B Site 1 project, “Hip3” at the Kwu Tung North New Development Area project, and “Wellness Hub” at the Yuen Lung Street project in Yuen Long. Plans are also underway to set up another three MiC Collaboration Centres at other construction sites, including the Ma Tau Kok project.
