HKHS Clinches Three Accolades at Quality Building Award 2026 for Building Sustainable and Inclusive Communities with People-centric Smart Innovation

The Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) was recently honoured with three accolades at the Quality Building Award (QBA) 2026, a prestigious event in the building industry.  Notably, “W.I.S.E”, the Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) Collaboration Centre pioneered at the Anderson Road Site R2-4 project in Kwun Tong, received the highest honour “Grand Award” in the “Hong Kong Temporary Building” category.  In addition, “Hip3”, a similar facility at the Kwu Tung North New Development Area project and “Casa Sierra”, a Dedicated Rehousing Estate (DRE) project in Fanling, were also conferred with Merit Awards in recognition of HKHS’s excellence in project planning and development.

HKHS Chief Executive Officer James Chan said, “We are deeply delighted that our projects have been recognised at the QBA 2026, reflecting the Housing Society’s persistent efforts in innovative construction and community development.  Guided by the ‘people-centric’ principle, the Housing Society not only enhances site safety and the working environment through our MiC Collaboration Centres, but also strives to respond to society’s long-term needs through our residential developments.  Among others, ‘Casa Sierra’, a mixed development integrating diverse types of housing, community facilities and amenities, exemplifies our direction in fostering an intergenerational and age-friendly community.  Beyond providing living spaces, the project promotes interaction and mutual support across generations, offering a forward-looking housing model that addresses Hong Kong’s demographic shifts.  Looking ahead, the Housing Society will continue to place innovation and inclusion at the heart of our work, and stay committed to driving sustainability and creating communities of stronger cohesiveness and resilience.”

The two MiC Collaboration Centres, “W.I.S.E.” and “Hip3”, won the Grand Award and a Merit Award respectively in the “Hong Kong Temporary Building” category, setting a new industry benchmark for temporary facilities on construction sites.  Both centres are equipped with the Smart Site Safety System (4S) and a comprehensive range of worker welfare facilities, providing a safe and comfortable environment that integrates work, recreation and leisure.  Furthermore, as construction work progresses, the Collaboration Centres can be dismantled and reused at other suitable sites.  This helps reduce construction waste and resource consumption, fulfilling the sustainability principles of green building.

In addition, HKHS’s “Casa Sierra” on Pak Wo Road in Fanling received a Merit Award in the “Hong Kong Residential (Multiple Buildings)” category.  This mixed development project offers diverse housing types, including rental units, subsidised sale flats, and “Senior Citizen Residences Scheme” units, alongside a pet-friendly shopping mall and social welfare facilities that foster intergenerational harmony.  The project also incorporates elderly-friendly design and facilities, making it the first project in Hong Kong accredited with the Elderly-friendly Building Certification.  The team has adopted Building Information Modelling (BIM) throughout the entire project lifecycle, from design and construction to future maintenance, to drive smart property management, establishing it as an exemplar for intergenerational and smart community development.

Jointly organised by 10 local professional bodies, QBA is a biennial industry event and ranks among the most iconic awards in the construction industry.  It aims to recognise buildings of outstanding quality and those that demonstrate outstanding teamwork.  The theme of this year is “Smartly We Build | Sustainably We Thrive | Inclusively We Lead”, recognising the adoption of smart, sustainable, and inclusive solutions, driving innovation and eco-friendly practices to foster a sustainable future.
