New Arrangement of Mandatory Building Inspection Subsidy Scheme

The Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) announced the new arrangement of ceasing to accept new applications for the Mandatory Building Inspection Subsidy Scheme (MBISS) with effect from 9 July 2018, but HKHS will continue to follow through the applications received prior to that day.  The Urban Renewal Authority (URA) will be responsible for handling all new MBISS applications, including the areas originally served by HKHS.

Under the Mandatory Building Inspection Scheme implemented by the Buildings Department since 30 June 2012, owners of buildings aged 30 years or above (except domestic buildings not exceeding 3 storeys) and served with statutory notices are required to carry out inspection and necessary repair of the common parts, external walls and projections or signboards, as a measure to address the problem of building neglect.  In order to offer assistance to owners in need for complying with the statutory requirements, HKHS and URA jointly launched the MBISS and started to accept applications from October 2012 to provide financial assistance to eligible owners.

HKHS has so far issued a total of 572 “Approval-In-Principle”, involving 749 buildings with the subsidy amount reaching about HK$24,000,000.  To date, HKHS has released financial subsidies to 245 cases for 316 buildings at the total amount of about HK$8,500,000.

For further information about MBISS, members of the public can visit the URA website (http://www.ura.org.hk) or contact the hotline at 3188 1188.
