Housing Society Clinches Four Awards in Construction Industry Volunteer Award Scheme 2021

The Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) was presented four awards in the "Construction Industry Volunteer Award Scheme 2021" organised by the Construction Industry Council, namely "Excellence in Construction Industry Volunteering Project (Merit)", "Excellence in Construction Industry Volunteering Collaboration (Merit)", "Most Supportive Organisation" and "Merit Award for Participation", in recognition of its outstanding contributions in promoting volunteer services.

HKHS has been motivating its staff, residents and student awardees of its various scholarships/bursaries schemes to serve the people in need through volunteering programmes that aim to instill a caring culture in the community.  From April 2020 to March 2021, HKHS volunteers achieved 6,000 service hours in a wide array of activities.  The "Used Book Recycling and Story-telling Campaign" was one of the key programmes organised by the HS Academy Alumni Club.  A total of 5,000 books had been collected from HKHS's rental estates in the six-month programme and distributed to the underprivileged families through collaboration with a number of charitable organisations.  The volunteers had even hosted online and offline story-telling sessions for the children in a bid to cultivate their interest in reading and encourage social communication during the pandemic.  At the "Hand-weaving Works for Warm Wishes" event, elderly volunteers were engaged to teach the youngsters to knit scarves for giving to the elderly tenants of HKHS's rental estates, so as to extend care and promote intergenerational harmony.

HKHS Corporate Communications Director Pamela Leung said, "While upholding the belief of 'Create Homes • Revive Communities', the Housing Society has been committed to building a caring community through promoting volunteer services across different age groups and strengthening the community support network, so as to create an inclusive and sustainable living environment."

Launched by the Construction Industry Council in 2017, the "Construction Industry Volunteer Award Scheme" encourages the industry to organise and participate in volunteer services in order to serve the community with expertise.
